Description
HLWJ-4020 5-Axis CNC Waterjet Cutting Machine
5 Axis CNC Waterjet Cutter For Metal, Stone, Glass & Titanium Cutting
Features
We used to say no a lot.
I have walked through enough fabrication shops to notice the same thing over and over. The owners buying a waterjet are almost never the ones who cannot cut. They are the ones who can cut nearly everything - except the handful of jobs that pay the best.
"Can you do this in stainless?" Sure, but the heat will pull it. "What about glass?" Not on our equipment. "We need a curved slot, through both materials, in one pass." Sorry.
Every one of those "sorry" is a customer walking into the shop down the road.
And that is the honest reason to buy a waterjet. It is not about cutting your everyday work faster. It is about the work you currently turn away.
How it actually cuts
The HLWJ-4020 uses a very high-pressure stream of water mixed with abrasive - garnet, usually - to erode a narrow line through the material. Roughly 0.5 to 1.0mm wide.
No flame. No heat. No melted edge, no heat-affected zone, no thermal deformation. Cold cutting. That one fact is what unlocks the materials a torch or a laser cannot touch - the ones that warp, the ones that crack, the ones that discolour at the cut.
Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, marble, granite, ceramic, glass, rubber, foam. One cutting head, all of it.
The taper problem - and why this one is 5-axis
Anyone who has owned a waterjet knows the taper. The jet loses energy and spreads as it goes deeper, so the cut comes out slightly wider at the bottom than at the top. On thin sheet you barely notice. On thick material it is plain, and on a joint that has to fit, it is a reject.
The HLWJ-4020 tilts the cutting head as it travels - up to ±60° - so the compensation lives in the motion instead of in the operator's hands. Line cutting accuracy holds at ±0.1mm, angle accuracy at ±0.1°. The edge comes out square.
You can also cut at an angle on purpose. Bevels, chamfers, conical and circular surfaces, rotating surfaces, grooves, and arbitrary surfaces - not just straight through.
The kerf matters more than people think
Because the cut is only 0.5 to 1.0mm wide, almost nothing is lost to the cut itself. On expensive stock - a titanium plate, a slab of stone, an inlay pattern - that is the difference between squeezing out one more part and scrapping the sheet. You can nest parts tightly because the gap between them is tiny. Narrow kerf is not a spec sheet line. It is material you keep.
When the jet stops, you do not start over
Power blip. Water pressure hiccup. Somebody leans on the wrong button. On a lot of machines that means the part is scrap.
The HLWJ-4020 picks up from where the jet stopped - cut recovery. If you have ever written off a half-finished stainless panel, you already know what that feature is worth.
The Z axis is programmable and retracts between pierces, keeping the nozzle clear and the cycle moving.
Movement, and what keeps the water out
Servo motors, linear slides, helical rack and pinion. That combination is what allows rapid positioning without giving up accuracy - high-precision parts at the highest processing speeds the machine is rated for.
Waterjet shops are wet, gritty places. The drive system is sealed against water, dust, and grit. That seal is the difference between a machine that runs for years and one that needs a new drive every second season.
Where a waterjet is not the answer
Being straight with you - if you run thousands of thin mild steel blanks a day, a laser will outrun this machine. Same if all your work is straight cuts in soft sheet.
A waterjet earns its place when the material is thick, heat-sensitive, mixed, or expensive - and when the edge has to be right the first time.
Who this is for
Stone and countertop shops cutting inlays, mosaics, and art puzzles. Glass processors doing bathroom panels, shop windows, automotive and appliance glass. Metal fabricators cutting stainless for decoration, equipment covers, and precision parts. Anyone cutting gaskets or foam shapes.
If half your order book is "we can't do that," this is the machine that deletes the sentence.
Send us the material and thickness you cut most, plus the one job your current equipment refuses to handle. We will tell you straight whether a waterjet is the right spend - or whether you should put the money somewhere else. No point pretending every shop needs one.
The machine includes the following equipments

Optionals

High-Pressure Pump
Brand: KMT
Origin: USA
Renowned worldwide for its stable high-pressure performance, reliability, long service life, and precise control system.
High-Pressure Pump
Brand: BFT
Origin: Austria
Reliable performance, stable high pressure, and long service life.

Flip-to-Floor Loader
Reduces manual handling and heavy lifting. It tilts down to floor level for easy slab loading, then smoothly lifts and transfers the slab onto the main worktable, improving loading efficiency and safety.
Slab Image Capture
Captures and corrects slab images for precise material layout and nesting. Helps optimize material usage by avoiding imperfections, matching natural stone veins, and accurately identifying slab edges.

FAQ
Q: What thickness can it cut?
A: That depends on the material and the pump pressure you pair it with - a 100mm slab of marble and a 20mm plate of titanium are not the same conversation. Send us the material and thickness you actually run, and we will confirm the parameters that work rather than quote a number that means nothing in your shop.
Q: Why 5-axis? Is a 3-axis waterjet not enough?
A: A 3-axis head always cuts straight down, so the taper is built into every cut and it gets worse as the material gets thicker. The 5-axis head tilts to compensate - that is how you get a square edge instead of a tapered one. The bonus is that the same tilt lets you cut bevels and 3D surfaces on purpose, not just compensate for them.
Q: Do I need to heat-treat or finish the parts afterward?
A: No heat, no heat-affected zone. The waterjet removes material mechanically instead of burning through it, so there is nothing to relieve afterwards. Because the cutting force is minimal, the parts come off the table tension-free - no warping, no stress left in the material.
Q: What happens if the jet stops in the middle of a job?
A: Cut recovery. The machine remembers where the jet stopped and picks up from that point when you restart. No re-zeroing, no scrapping the part.
Q: I cut steel one day and stone the next. What has to change?
A: The machine does not change - the cutting parameters do. You set the material and thickness, adjust the feed and the abrasive, and the head does the rest. A shop that runs countertop inlays on Monday and stainless covers on Tuesday does not need two machines.
Q: Water, grit, and dust - is maintenance a nightmare?
A: That is exactly why the drive system is sealed against water, dust, and grit. It is a design decision, not an afterthought. The moving parts that would normally be destroyed by a wet, abrasive environment are protected from it. That is what gives the machine a long working life in a shop that would eat an unprotected drive alive.
